The coronavirus has left doctors, scientists, and health experts perplexed. With millions of people across the globe having contracted the virus and succumbed to it, you need to be alert and stay on guard at all times.

If you feel like you’ve developed flu-like symptoms or know for a fact that you’ve been exposed to someone who has the disease, you should assume that you may also have COVID-19 and act promptly.

Here’s what to do if you’ve tested positive or think you may have the coronavirus.

Stay Home & Limit Contact

The first thing you need to do is self-isolate. If you live alone, you have the whole space to yourself and isolating is much easier. Do not leave your home unless absolutely necessary (for e.g. if you require urgent medical care).

Inform the people you’ve met or been around in the past couple of days of your symptoms so that they too may take the necessary measures. Stay indoors, isolated from world, until you have fully recovered.

If you share your home with family or friends, then it’s time you quarantine yourself in a separate room. Avoid sharing personal or other household items with your housemates, and stay in your room.

Make sure you’re washing your clothes and dishes separately as well to prevent transmission. On occasions you do interact with other members of the house, make sure both parties are wearing face masks and maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet.

Remember, the point is to limit contact.

Monitor Your Symptoms

It’s imperative that you monitor your symptoms on a daily basis. These include cough, fever, shortness of breath, diarrhea, body aches, and a sore throat. Record these daily and monitor any fluctuations or changes closely.

If you feel your symptoms are worsening, immediately get in touch with your doctor. Emergency symptoms to watch out for include having difficulty in breathing, excessive dizziness and weakness, and chest pain.

Look After Yourself

Whether you’re living alone or have company, you need to take care of your health. Get plenty of rest and keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. You should also consume a diet that boosts immunity. Avoid strenuous activity during this time to prevent fatigue and weakness.

Stay in contact with your doctor. Follow their instructions thoroughly and take the recommended medication on time. Make it a habit to wash your hands several times during the day with soap and water, and avoid touching your face.

If you have housemates, care must also be taken to disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched by you such as doorknobs and switchboards.

We don’t yet have a cure for the coronavirus, but you can still recover while staying at home and taking good care of your health. Hang in there. You can beat this.
